IKEA Is Life

If you ever want to find out how you handle stress, head to IKEA.

Stand at the entrance and you’ll see people going in happy and coming out stressed and miserable.

Walk through the maze and you hear sighs, snipes, gripes, and screaming kids.

It’s a nightmare.

It’s not that IKEA is bad…If you come to the gym, you can see that we LOVE the place.

Decent looking furniture at a reasonable price that you can fit in your car.

And you get to feel like a carpenter when you finish putting it all together.

It’s just overwhelming.

You’re faced with WAY too many decisions.

“What type of shelf, the thick one or the thin one?”

“How big should it be?”

“What color?”

“Should you get the doors?”

If you don’t walk in there with a plan, you will crumble and buy everything, or eventually give up and leave with whatever’s in your cart.

It reminds me back in the days of going to 24 hour fitness.

You walk in with a general idea of a workout, hop on a treadmill and start moving.

It’s either the same routine you’ve always done, or you wander around and try whatever looks good.

“Maybe I’ll do bicep curls today”

“That new machine looks cool, let me try it”

“oh, the elliptical is free, I’ll do 20 mins of that too!”

Too many choices, too many decisions to make.

When you leave, you wonder if you did anything more than break a sweat.

Eventually after weeks of sampling, or doing the same thing you’ve always done, you give up and start looking for something new.

Or even worse, you stop going to the gym altogether.

That’s why Hale only has ONE workout each day. There aren’t unlimited options, or piecing together your own things from a big menu.

One choice…no mental energy required.

The only thing you really decide is whether to show up.

No guesswork…only results.
