While I was in London, I sat down and chatted with Jonny Landels, our strength coach at CrossFit Thames, a theatre actor, and all around interesting guy.

Here’s Jonny!

Jonny has a great story of starting CrossFit after his rugby career ended. He was one of the biggest guys on the team (255 lbs @ 5’10”), and had a love of beer and sweets. After rugby ended, he found a regular gym routine and lost 20 lbs and considered himself “in shape” until he found CrossFit.jonnyphoto

His first CrossFit workout? “Murph” (1 mile run, 100 pull ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, 1 mile run).

It almost destroyed him….but he LOVED it!

Jonny’s story is great, because he started with a sports background before he found CrossFit. With that ego and attitude, he got beaten down a few times and finally realized that it takes focus, coaching and effort to improve.

In this episode, you will learn:

  • The story of how Jonny got started and how he lost over 50 lbs
  • When Jonny learned that technique really did matter
  • When repeating workouts is a great way to see progress
  • Why you DON’T need more volume in your training to make progress
  • Why the people you train with matters more than the program you follow
  • The psychological barrier that stops most people
  • How a good coach can tell whether you can lift a weight or not before you touch the bar
